Italian movie icon Sophia Loren is being honored by Oscars bosses in Hollywood. Friends and colleagues made remarks about the Oscar-winning actress and her most famous film clips will be shown at the event, to be held at 8 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
In 1962, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Two Women, along with 21 awards, becoming the first actress to win an Academy Award for a non-English-speaking performance. She even took the best actress prize for 1960s "Two Women" and she has an honorary Oscar as well.
Loren tells the Los Angeles Times the gala came as a surprise: "I didn't expect it, really. It's wonderful, because I belong to Italian movies and, generally, we Italians, we don't get these wonderful, great, great honors, even though we deserve it sometimes!
"There are no words to describe my emotions right now. It is hard to imagine that 50 years have passed since I welcomed my Oscar to my home," she added. Loren's primary residence has been in Geneva, Switzerland since late 2006. She also owns homes in Los Angeles and New York.
